ice breakup under cliffs at sunset

Refuge – 2019

There great lakes can become an incredible canvas for textures and movement of water which can be very different depending on the season. Until now I’ve not been able to photograph Ontario’s “iceberg” season, but in 2019 I happened to get my timing right. Turning up in time to capture ice breakup changed so many views that I’m familiar with.

This was one of the locations which takes on a completely different feel with all new lines and compositional opportunity with some ice breakup. Add in some interesting light and I find myself saying “maybe I need to explore my own back yard a bit more.” What a treat to have that view all to myself.
