The shape of Thor tends to change based on the position of the photographer. Wherever you stand, the mountain is going to dominate its surroundings, but it isn’t until you’re looking South at the mountain that it starts to take its iconic tooth-like shape. This spot is where the mountain really starts to get extra pointy, and it’s also where the river becomes pretty interesting and characteristic
Now, sure, this river looks like it has some significant flow to it. What you don’t recognize, however, is that this wave near the bottom of the frame is actually a pretty big eddy. Leaning on a giant boulder next to this, it was clear to me that going into that water would be a one-way trip. The bottom of that wave to the top was about the same distance between my hips and my head, and let me tell you, that water was roaring. I’m happy to say I was certainly treading lightly over this terrain!
