I was lucky enough to join two amazing photographers in travelling through some incredible parts of Alberta through January of 2022. Leaning on Scott Aspinall’s knowledge of the area, we were able to see some absolutely outstanding landscapes, and captured images unlike many I’d seen before.
This image was from our first night in Alberta – we went from the airport to here in one straight shot with no stops. We pulled over, and I watched the other two get ready to get snowy. I was too excited and didn’t think much about getting on my proper snow gear, and of course it was all buried at the bottom of my bag from my flight.
Scott – “are you getting changed or going in in jeans?”
Me – “nah, I think I’m good” – translates roughly to “I forgot to pack this stuff at the top of my bag, and I’m willing to be cold in order to not miss the light”
So in I go, jeans, low socks, no gloves, and post-holing as we went. Great start! Despite my complete and utter lack of preparedness for the first shoot, I was really happy with how things turned out. The Three Sisters in Canmore has to be one of the most iconic series of peaks in the Canadian Rockies, and with good reason!
I call this image the cookie monster. Can you guess why?
