Massive mountain over arctic sand dunes on Baffin Island

Faded – 2024

Maybe I’m going to show my novice experience in the arctic here, but I didn’t expect the arctic to seem like the desert.  I did not expect sand dunes or desert varnish to be seen anywhere, but here it is.  The nice thing here, however, is there’s no-one up there really, so most of those dunes were pristine when I got to see/photograph them!  And so very windy that even if there was something walking through the area, the dunes would be back to wavy goodness in short order.

This peak just loomed over our camp one night on the moraine.  This image makes it look a lot smaller than it is.  In addition, there was a MASSIVE block of rock on this rock face which didn’t seem to be held on to by much (if you look closely you may see it).  Just an ever-present warning to take this place seriously!
