After 11 days off trail backcountry camping, countless steps and kilometres walked, more dehydrated meals than I care to remember, some incredible memories with friends, and months of processing, I’m finally ready to start sharing some of my experiences in this incredible place. This is from Auyuittuq National Park on Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic – Nunavut.
So if I were to say the weather in Auyuittuq was dramatic, I’d be making a significant understatement. We had days where I was afraid to eat because the weather was so interesting. In moments of weakness, I asked the weather to stop being so incredible – I needed rest! This was one of those moments where probably the most dominant mountain I’ve ever witnessed showed the weather who was boss. Carving through the clouds and screaming up into the sky, Mount Thor – the world’s greatest vertical drop, carves its way through the sky in dramatic fashion. I can tell you that I dreamed of standing in this very spot for a very long time, and to see it come to life in front of me was a special moment that I’ll never forget. Even sweeter to experience this after my attempt at this trip in 2023 failed so miserably!
