This was one of those evenings with all the things that I love in landscape photography. A good hike, being unsure if you’ll find anything interesting, the pure joy of seeing something astounding, and the excitement of seeing it appear on the back of my camera. All of that followed by a really happy hike back to the car – even better when it’s downhill. For me, there has always been this really special feeling when I leave these places full of joy and thankfulness for what I think I’ve captured.
On this evening I followed two friends up a moderate hike in relatively warm winter weather, and then emerged from the trees to these astounding views. After that bit of up-hill exercise, we ran around photographing for hours, snacking on sandwiches (for those of us who remembered we had them), and grinning ear to ear for the beauty of that place. And we had it all to ourselves.
What an absolute treat!
